Residential, Weekly and Bi-weekly Services
- Mowing, Edging and Blowing
Longhorn will use commercial grade mowers professionally sharpened to mow front, back and side yards. We will line trim around permanent structures, such as fences, bed edging and trees, etc. All sidewalks, driveways and walkways will be edged. Sidewalks, patios and driveways will always be blown clean.
- Leaf Removal and Cleanups
Leaf removal consists of removing all the leaves from bed and turf areas on the property. A Clean Up includes leaf removal, brush, weeds, branches and twigs, litter and other debris that needs to be removed from the property.
- Shrub and Tree Trimming
Shrubs and trees are trimmed to the owner's requirements. In the absence of any guidance in this regard Longhorn will use our best judgment following standard horticultural maintenance practices. Longhorn will provide tree trimming and removal.
- Bed Weeding Service
Includes removing weeds from the beds by hand pulling and or scraping as appropriate. We recommend applying a scheduled treatment of weed inhibitor and applying a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to lessen the amount of weeds in the beds. Bed weeding is priced by the 1/2 hour of service.
- Scalping and Initial Spring Service
The Initial spring service includes leaf cleanup as applicable, and scalping the turf below the typical cutting height to remove any brown and dead grass leaves and stems so the new green growth is not mixed with the old dead and brown leaves. We do not cut the grass down to the soil level when we scalp, this is unnecessary and not practicing "Green Conservation" of which we subscribe.
- Mulching Beds and around Trees
Mulching is an optional service to provide a 2-3 inch covering of a hardwood shredded mulch in the beds around shrubs and flowers. Mulch will lessen the germination of weeds and evaporation of moisture from the soil. it will also provide some protection to the roots of plants from temperature extremes making for healthier and robust plantings.
Mulch is purchased by the sq ft and we can provide a quote for your specific needs. Mulch can be applied anytime, spring and fall are typical.
- Lawn Fertilizer and Weed / Pest Control
Longhorn is licensed to apply these treatments and has a comprehensive program to do so. We apply 6 treatments per year at the appropriate times to properly control weeds and maintain a green lawn. Additionally we can provide shrub and tree treatments to keep your shrubs and trees in good health.
- Bagging Grass Clippings
Longhorn uses commercial grade mulching mowers which chops the grass into very small pieces which then filter down to the soil and begin to breakdown as nitrogen fertilizer. This is good for the soil and the environment.
If you want to bag your grass clippings we will do so for an additional charge and the clippings will be put in an environmentally friendly bag and left by the street for city pick up.
- Color Planting
Longhorn will plant seasonal color for you. We can supply commercial grade plants of your choice. Plants will be planted following correct horticultural practices. The bed area will be prepped and amended with landscapers mix, loosening the soil. Mulch will be applied around the plants after planting and the plants will be watered.
- Core Aeration
Core Aeration is a mechanical means to allow better penetration of air, nutrients and water to your soil. A machine pulls small cores of soil (plugs) out of the turf area leaving small 1/4 inch sized holes approximately 2 inches deep holes.
Turf areas that are not looking robust despite proper treatment of fertilizer and sufficient water may be suffering from compaction. Compaction occurs naturally over time and is accelerated by play activities, pets, sports and certainly parking on the lawn.
- Turf Aeration
The need for aerating your turf generally is the result of soil compaction from heavy use such as foot traffic, a dog's preferred route thru the yard, heavy clay soils, etc. The soil typically has been physically compressed such that air, water and nutrients have difficulty penetrating. When you aerate your lawn, you punch small deep holes in the soil allowing more air, water, and nutrients around the turf's root system which aids in: preventing fungal diseases, encourages the growth of healthy microorganisms and promotes a healthy turf overall.
Aerate when outdoor temperatures are moderate, not extreme. The soil should be evenly moist, but not wet. Flag all the irrigation components to avoid damaging them with the Aerator tines. If you aerate in the late fall, don't wait until too late in the season, allow growing time left for your lawn to fill in the holes created by aeration. Leave the soil plugs alone, they will break up in a few days.
- Other Services
Services like tree staking or removing stakes, tree limb pruning, and other landscaping services are available.
